Happy that there is a restaurant of this quality where it is outside of the busy city and easier to get to during peak hours. Open for lunch and dinner this place offers a good quality fine dinning experience.

Vibe Hotel (Surfers Paradise)

Spacious room with modern design, friendly service. BUT… definitely an aged hotel, furnitures such as sofa and chairs have stains, white shower feels unclean because of unavoidable mould over time, amenities is so so and most importantly, shower is not made for a tall person (lol). Bedding looks clean. Hotel has a smell of plastic and rasin. Sound travels, can clearly hear person opening / closing doors as well as car driving past on the road even when on 20th floor. Car park management not optimal where car space can run out for hotel guests and asked to park on ramp with car keys required to be kept by hotel staff.

Bed: Very firm bed (comfy for me) with very soft pillows (zero neck support)
Water pressure for shower: Average (tested at level 20)
Location: Very convenient, at the heart of city centre, bus stop round the corner and accessible to supermarkets
Important point: Shower unlikely to cater for tall person
Overall: Average. Not a hotel i want to hang out over the weekend but economical enough to stay.
Verdict: Good fall back hotel plan if your hotel of choice is not available.

P.S. My friend who checked in for the same duration of stay got a smaller room.

Circle Espresso (Surfers Paradise)

If a good coffee is what you are looking for, then this is not the place to be.

An open cafe opposite chocolate san churro at the heart of tourist shopping area. Chai late was good, sweet but not too sweet. Eggs benny comes with fried sunny side eggs rather than poach and hollandaise sauce tastes more like mayonnaise. I liked the fried eggs for a change but can’t say i love the mayo tasting hollandaise sauce combination. Like the thinly sliced sourdough bread. Unfortunately, terrible coffee. I ordered a flat white. Turns out to be watery, milk overheated and very foamy. The blend is towards the sour type. Life is too short for bad coffee… lol.

Good location for people watching but not really the relax chilling type of cafe due to the openness and not so comfy hard red chairs and practical school canteen type tables. Pricing is reasonable:
– Eggs benny with salmon $14.50
– Large (descent size) coffee approx. $5

Char Baa (Gold Coast)

Name: Char Baa
Address: 4/ 1840 Lower Gold Coast Highway,  Burleigh, Gold Coast, Queensland

Must have ordered the wrong dishes when the reviews were so glamorous online. Went to Char Baa during Friday lunch and ordered 2 dishes. Here’s what I think…

Bruchetta – Poor. Rocket was not fresh when bruchetta is all about the freshness of ingredients. Lack of sauces to harmonise the parmeson, rocket and cherry tomatoes.

Grilled Tuna – Unedible. They should just take this item off the menu if they are going to offer over cooked, way chewy, unedible tuna which texture can resembles rubber.

With the dishes i ordered, i would never recommend anyone to dine at this restaurant. But im somewhat confused with what i see others say about this place. Perhaps one will have to choose the meatier (easier to cook) option to taste the true goodness  (or lack the there of) of this place.

Overall comment, they do nice pickles. Coffee was good.

Was recommended by the waiter that the eggs with sides is the way to go for breakfast. So my friend and I ordered two dishes of eggs with different sides and the cornersmith plate. The eggs alone with the pickles was actually nice enough. The side becomes a nice to have option but it didn’t actually taste as nice as smoked onion relish anyway. It was creative though, on the day of the order (it seems that they change their sides often), we had the sides with kam quat and pickled coleslaw. With regards to the cornersmith plate, it was probably because we had the eggs and wasn’t as hungry that my friend and I pecked on the pickles and left the cheese, the apple and ham alone. So clearly, the pickles win. Lol. Coffee was good, on the smooth and milky side.

So as a note to myself, I will go back if it’s convenient and order the coffee and eggs (without side).

Taiwan Soul Food

It’s been a while since I posted but here is to warn the Sydney Siders not to go to Taiwan Soul Food. Never have I tasted a stewed mince pork rice where the rice is only half cooked and the meat tastes and smells a bit funny. This is one of the easiest and symbolic taiwanese dish that usually doesn’t go wrong. I didn’t try the other dishes though so hopefully they are of better quality. Nontheless, I shall not be back. Only had a few spoonfuls before I left to find real food. Lol

En Toriciya

Name: En Toriciya

Address: 100 Willougby Road, Crows Nest, NSW 2065

A sister restaurant of Toriciya that is located in Cammeray but I personally like this restaurant better, namely cause I find that they are more catered for casual dining with lunch specials and actually have more comfortable seatings. The menu seems to have more variety too including desserts that are not available at the Cammeray restaurant – take note, my favourite is the egg custard which really is the Japanese Egg Pudding 🙂 This is definitely an authentic Japanese restaurant at a convenient location. The downside would probably be the waiting time. Maybe it’s cause the restaurant is still relatively new but as an example, the express take away lunch would take 20 minutes to prepare, so best to pre-order and advise pick up time.

Restaurant with a stunning view. Surprised to find a good quality restaurant around this area. Above average food with lovely service. Was a tad bit disappointed when requested that no peanuts were to be added for one of the dish, they did not substitute another type of nuts to ensure the texture of the dish is not compromised. Will go back again.

Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant

Seafood restaurant that is highly recommended. Wonderful quality food, lovely ambiance, friendly and professional staff. Delicately balanced flavours with fresh quality ingredients and skillful presentation. Don’t normally think that beer battered oysters are nice until I tried it at this restaurant. Generous serving of garlic bread and well flavoured. Enjoyed the bbq octopus and fish. Pavlova was a portion too small and do not recommend it as it was the only dish that is average. Atmosphere good enough for a date. Recommend booking.

Spago

Disappointing. A place recommended by friends which recommended their freshly made pasta. Entre was descent when compared to the ordinary mark. The pasta and risotto were neither of my liking. The pasta was too hard and the cabonara sauce lacking a hint of bacon taste. The risotto was chewy and only average quality. The dessert molten cake (cannot remember exactly what they called it), while did not fail to have a soft centre, the cake itself did not taste that great. Oh! And would not recommend anyone ordering a glass of wine. If you are a wine drinker, order a bottle. The glass that they served me tasted off like vinegar. Will not go back.
